How Can You Meditate With Your Dog?

Normally, home is our safe place. The place where we escape from all our problems. But during a pandemic, home is where we work, where we socialize and where we try to relax. To reclaim your safe place, you can meditate and escape from the world’s problems as much as you can. And why not do it with your furry friend?

The Benefits of Meditating With Your Dog

If you meditated before, you know its benefits, increasing overall well-being and health is just one of them. Now let’s discuss why you need to meditate with your dog.

Meditation reinforces safety and trust between one another

As dog owners, we want to create a safe environment for our pets that they can be happy and thrive. If they don’t feel like they are safe, when they are in a place of insecurity and fear, they have a hard time adjusting to your home. And this means you cannot bond with them.  Meditating with them builds confidence and lessens fear, strengthens your relationship. Just find a quiet and safe space and watch your bond grow.

Meditation harmonizes your energy

When you meditate with your dog, you both feel calmer and more relaxed, creating that connection harmonizes your energy and makes your relationship stronger.

Meditation diminishes stress

If you meditated before, you have realized that your stress is reduced, meditation gives your mind and body the break you desire. It does the same for your furry friend. And when you feel less stressed, you feel happier and you even see some physical effects of minimized stress, your natural healing abilities prosper.

Can You Meditate With Your Dog?

Now, we know what you are thinking. Can you really meditate with your dog, will he/she behave? And the answer is YES! It can take a few tries to get used to, but once you achieve that bond, you will benefit from meditating with your dog in your relationship with your dog and your own well-being.

How Can You Meditate With Your Dog?

Mindfulness can be practiced anytime and anywhere. If you want to meditate easily with your dog, just make a few changes during your walks. On your next walk, let them lead the way and focus on the walk, not your phone. Be present. We guarantee that you’ll notice things you haven’t before. It’s called walking meditation with your dog, and it will be good for you both.

Enjoy the beautiful weather, breathe the fresh air, and just appreciate your surroundings. And try to sense everything your dog senses. Smell, see, hear, touch, and taste (some fruit trees maybe) your surroundings. If you are planning on doing this during the pandemic, maybe it would be best to limit your senses to smelling, seeing, and hearing. But when life returns to normal, you can use all your senses!

To meditate at home, it’s important to be committed. The answer to how to meditate with your dog is really not that hard, be consistent!  During the first few times can be a challenge, your dog may (will) want to play, may sniff and lick you. You should stand still and try to concentrate, after a while he/she will join you. And don’t forget, consistency is the most important part of meditating with your dog. You both have to meditate consistently to get used to each other and create a deeper connection. Not just for meditation, doing yoga or pilates, or any other sport, if you do it constantly you can change your dog’s reaction to that. If your dog doesn’t want to stay still during the first few times of your meditations, meditating on a regular basis will teach your dog to behave. And only when you meditate on a regular basis you can see its benefits.
